Drilling has kicked off on another new Norway exploration well on the Albert prospect in the northern North Sea near the Snorre field.

Operated by Lundin Petroleum the 6201/11-3 Albert prospect well is being drilled 65 kilometres (40 miles)  north-west of Snorre with the Bredford Dolphin semi-submersible in PL519

Albert is being targeted to test Cretaceous and Triassic sandstones and Lundin has indicated a pre-drill reserves estimate of 177 million barrels of oil equivalent.

Drilling at Albert is aiming for a target depth of 3,150 metres below mean sea level and the operation is forecast to take up to 55 days.

Lundin is operating the well with 40% partnered by Bayerngas, Norwegian Energy Company and Spring Energy.
