One of the worst helicopter accidents in the North Sea took place just over two years on 1 April 2009 involving a Bond Helicopter which was returning to Aberdeen from BP's Miller platform.

On that occasion a Super Puma AS 332 L2, also operated by Bond Offshore Helicopters and carrying two crew and 14 passengers crashed into the sea about 11 nautical miles north-east of Peterhead, near Aberdeen, at 12.55 pm.

Search and rescue efforts were unsuccessful in finding any survivors on that occasion.
