Britain’s BG Group has signed up Japan’s Tokyo Gas to a 20 year supply deal to take production from the forthcoming Queensland Curtis LNG project in Australia.

BG said today Tokyo Gas has agreed to take liquefied natural gas from Queensland Curtis LNG as the rate of 1.2 million tonnes per annum (mtpa) starting in 2015 which will liquefy coal seam gas from the Surat basin n Queensland..

After first signalling the negotiations with Tokyo last year, BG sanctioned the project last October and the facility is due to being operating in 2014.

Also Tokyo Gas will acquire 1.25% of some of the reserves in the coal seam gas deposit in the Surat Basin and will take control of 2.5% equity investor in QCLNG Train 2, the second liquefaction train which will form phase one of the project.
