BG books US $ 1.8 billion of new cash for Brazil

Britain's BG Group has received a green light from a Brazilian bank for up to $1.8 billion of new funding for up to eight new FPSOs developments.

Indicating the massive project opportunities offshore Brazil, BG said today it has now received initial approval for $1.8 bn of long term financing for the eight floating production projects it is now progressing offshore Brazil in partnership with Petrobras.

The funding will be used for local procurement and construction costs for the eight FPSOs – each with processing capacity for up to 150,000 b/d in a series of pre-salt developments in the deepwater Santos Basin offshore Brazil, in a first phase, fast-track development programme.

Together the new production ships are designed to provide production capacity of 2.3 m boe/d by 2017.

“The funds will help underpin BG Group’s investments for the successful development of our world-class pre-salt Santos Basin interests,” declared Fabio Barbosa, BG's chief financial officer.

The green light has come from Brazilian bank BNDES and by the end of the second quarter this year BG aims to have secured a 14 year term for the finance.
