Further test results from the Barryroe oil prospect offshore Ireland indicate that the hole has intersected a further gas bearing reservoir.

After the 48/24-10z well tested 3,514 b/d of oil and 2.93 Mmcf/d of gas from a 24-foot net oil interval, operator Providence Resources disclosed today that the well has also encountered a further 17-foot net hydrocarbon bearing zone which has tested at 7 Mmcf/d of gas and 1,350 b/d of oil.

“The productivity of the gas bearing interval far exceeded expectations and thereby constrained the ability to fully open the well up to its maximum potential,” Providence noted.

“The well lies just 3 km [1,.87 miles] from installed pipeline infrastructure which may provide a future route to monetize any surplus Barryroe gas production.,” suggested Providence chief executive Tony O'Reilly.

“It is particularly pleasing to note that both the oil and gas zones have far exceeded our pre-drill expectations, both in terms of reservoir development and more importantly, oil and gas flow rates,” he added.

The Barryroe well has been drilled in Standard Exploration Licence 1.11 in the North Celtic Sea Basin off southern Ireland in a water depth of 100 metres (320 ft). Providence is operating the well with 80% partnered by Lansdowne Oil and Gas with 20%.
