Cheviot subsea hardware contract awarded

Operator ATP has selected GE Oil and Gas to supply hardware for its UK North Sea Cheviot oil field development.

GE has landed a US $80 million deal to deliver subsea hardware the UK Northern North Sea project and it follows on from a previous contract landed by GE through its Wellstream division to deliver 45 kilometres (28.1 miles) of flexible risers and flowlines for the Octabuoy floating production and storage facility which is being built for use on the development – and which is designed for later re-use.

GE's cope of supply under the new deal is for provision of wellheads, subsea xmas trees and a subsea control system. System engineering and design, plus procurement and on-site testing services will be supplied by GE as part of the new package.

Rod Christie, GE Oil and Gas vice president of subsea systems emphasised that as part of the award, ATP was looking for high reliability, the lowest lifecycle costs, and the ability to meet a very tight project schedule.

Shipments for the Cheviot project are due to begin in February 2013 and installation is due later the same year. Commercial operation of the equipment is expected to start in 2014.
