Dana proceeds with Dutch project
Despite the KNOC takeover bid Dana Petroleum has agreed to go ahead with a new Dutch North Sea oil and gas project.
Dana's Medway project will see an extension of the life of the De Ruyter oil and gas field and is due onstream by the fourth quarter next year, the company declared today, adding an extra 4,100 boe/d of production by 2012.
Medway is operated by Dana with 50% partnered by EBN and will extend the life of the De Ruyter field facilities through until 2020. The project involves tapping two previous discoveries in what Dana calls the Greater De Ruyter area, the Van Nes gas find and the Van Ghent oil and gas field, which were discovered in 2007 and 2008.
Van Nes is 8 km (5 miles) north of De Ruyter and Van Ghent is 4.5 km to the east, and both lie in Dutch block P11b.
Aberdeen-headquartered Dana, still under the threat of a takeover from state-owned Korea National Oil Corporation stated today:“The Medway opportunity formed part of the upside identified by Dana during its acquisition of Petro Canada Netherlands BV earlier this year. Medway is now one of three significant oil and gas developments in Dana's core North Sea area offering near-term production upside, the others being the Western Isles oil fields and the Arran gas fields, both in the UK sector.”
Two subsea wells and associated flowlines will be used to tap the two fields and the De Ruyter platform is to be modified to handle the additional production, with subsea controls, an expansion of the gas export systems, and the platform will also be equipped for further tie-ins in the future.
Reserves of up to 11.8 m boe have been identified in the two fields in a base case assessement, and there is further upside potential, the company has indicated.
“Dana's experienced operational team in the Netherlands has achieved acceleration of the Medway project and plans are well advanced to deliver first production in the fourth quarter of 2011,” said Dana chief executive Tom Cross. “The Medway development has been carefully designed to allow further oil and gas to be produced through the De Ruyter/Medway offshore facilities as additional targets are drilled in this area.”
