Statoil drilled a dry hole on the Tordis field area offshore Norway.

After drilling the 34/7-35-S well in PL552 at a location four kilometres (2.5 miles) west of the Tordis field with the Ocean Vanguard, the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate has disclosed that the well, which was aiming for petroleum deposits in Upper and Middle Jurassic Draupne and Brent group formations, was a dry hole.

The well was drilled to a vertical depth of 3710 metres (12,168 feet) and failed to find the Upper Jurassic reservoir, and the Brent Group were poorer than expected.

Next, the Ocean Vanguard is to relocated to PL265 to drill the 16/2-12 well for Statoil.
