BP is working to repair the small leak on an infield flowline at its deepwater Foinaven field by mobilising equipment to de-pressurise the affected line.

Action was being taken this week to de-pressurise the affected infield flowline while BP has also indicated that all the necessary procedures for de-oiling the line and preserving the affected area are well developed and all the equipment needed for this has already been mobilised to the Foinaven FPSO.

BP confirmed that the leak was first detected in the early hours last Sunday during an ROV inspection fly-by.

But the leak is minimal, offshore.no/International has been told, and is actually located on a pipe flange rather than the pipeline – an 8-inch infield flowline.

While the cause of the leak is being investigated, plans are being made to rectify the problem. Re-start options are under review and those will be informed by an ongoing investigation and further ROV inspections.

It is understood that the leak was small and hardly detectable as no pressure drop was detected in the flowline. But with Foinaven now shutdown, it is not yet known when the field will be brought back into production.

Foinaven originally came onstream in 1997.
