Gas output up but oil is down

Despite the threat of industrial action and production setbacks output on the Norwegian Continental Shelf is up 8% from last year.

Gas production rose 19% in the first six months of this year and production of Non Gas Liquids was up 17%, but oil production fell 5% compared with the first six months of last year, new figures from the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate reveal.

Average daily production for June was 1.862 million barrels of oil, NGLs and condensate, down 163,000 b/d compared to May this year.

Oil production in June was 1.502 m b/d, NGLs accounted for 279,000 b/d in June, and condensate production in June was 81,000 b/d.

Gas sales in June were about 8.6 billion cubic metres, 0.3 bcm down on May.

“Four new fields have started producing during this year’s first six months,” The NPD points out. These are Eni‘s operated Marulk gas field in the Norwegian Sea, BG Norge‘s Gaupe gas and oil development in the North Sea; Dong‘s Oselvar gas development, and the Total-operated Islay gas field, on the border between the Norwegian and UK continental shelf in the North Sea.

Total oil production on the Norwegian shelf is sbelow the NPD forecast for June and about 0.5% over the cumulative prognosis this year.

“Due to strikes on the Norwegian continental shelf, production on the Heidrun, Oseberg, Oseberg Sør and Oseberg Øst fields was shut down on June 25, and on Brage, Huldra, Oseberg C and Veslefrikk on June 27,” the NPD noted.
