Hendry launches 27th UK Round
Britain's Department of Energy and Climate Change has launched the UK's 27th Offshore Licensing Round offering up to 2,800 blocks for new exploration.
Energy Minister Charles Hendry says the new round - following on from the 26th Round in 2010 which saw 190 new offshore licences issued and the highest number since offshore licensing was launched back in 1964 – is offering 2,800 blocks.
“This is shaping up to be a very prosperous year for the North Sea as we expect a substantial increase in field approvals,” the Minister declared. “With around 20 billion barrels of oil still to be extracted, the UK Continental Shelf has many years of productivity left.”
Applications for the new round close in May this year.
On offer is acreage across the whole of the UKCS including the Northern, Central and Southern North Sea, the English Channel, the South-west Approaches, Morecambe Bay, and the region west of the Hebrides Islands.
