Further drilling offshore Denmark has confirmed an oil discovery on the Little John prospect after a a sidetrack well.

Drilled in Danish lice 12/06, PA Resources reported today that the well provided a second penetration of the Miocene sandstone in the original well which was also oil-bearing – at a distance of 180 metres (590 feet) from the original well drilled in October.

“Again the Miocene sandstones were oil-bearing in the sidetrack at a depth approximately 930 meters ([3,050 ft] below mean sea level, with improved reservoir quality compared to the original well which confirmed oil of gravity 34-35 degrees API,” PA Resources disclosed today.

“Both penetrations were primarily located for the Chalk target and as such lie outside of the well-imaged Miocene seismic amplitude anomaly interpreted to reflect better developed oil-bearing sandstone. The sidetrack was not located to allow the secondary Middle Jurassic target to be drilled and so is now being plugged and abandoned.”

Little John was drilled about 17 kilometres (10.6 miles) south of Denmark's producing Gorm field and 8 km (5 miles) from the Broder Tuck gas and condensate find drilled in July this year.

Licence partners, which comprise operator PA Resources UK , Nordsøfonden  - the Danish North Sea Fund -  Danoil Exploration and Spyker Energy – have agreed to declare Little John and Broder Tuck as discoveries, triggering further technical and commercial evaluation for development.

Also a re-evaluation will be carried out of Miocene prospectivity, and the Chalk and Middle Jurassic potential in the licence, PA has indicated.

But PA president Bo Askvik is clearly pleased with the drilling result which marks the end of the company's current Danish exploration campaign with two discoveries from two wells.

Askvik stated today: “We are very satisfied with this result of the campaign and have commenced a comprehensive evaluation to progress Broder Tuck towards development. Additional studies will be conducted to progress the further exploration of the Little John area and appraisal of the exciting Miocene discovery, made at a reservoir level which has not been widely explored in Denmark.”
