New West of Shetlands 3D seismic starts

Oslo-listed TGS has announced the start of a new 3D multi-client seismic survey which is covering the Erlend basin within the UK West of Shetlands region.

Survey ship Polarcus Samur is carrying out the the initial phase of the data acquisition programme which TGS says is the first to cover the Erlend Basin area.

Expanding on an existing 10,000 square kilometre northern North Sea data set, the new survey will be covering blocks which are destined to be offered in the UK's forthcoming 27 Offshore Licensing Round.

Another survey ship, Polarcus Duchess, which is already chartered by TGS, is due to continue with the survey later in the 2012 data acquisition season, and the processed data from the programme is due to become available in time for the licensing round in the second quarter next year.
