OIE bags support for new Forties facility
Energy personnel specialist OIE has secured a deal with Offshore Group Newcastle to support construction of a new Forties field platform.
OGN is currently building a new Forties field oil production platform under a £150 million deal with operator Apache Corporation, which was awarded in November 2010.
OIE has been contracted to supply support and maintenance services for the new bridge-linked Forties facility while it is under construction at OGNs Hadrian fabrication yard in Wallsend, Newcastle. Once complete, the new 18-slot platform will be installed next to the existing Forties Alpha platform.
Under the deal – valued at £500,000 - OIE is to have responsibility for maintenance buildings for the new Forties platform, and it will also work on reducing the safety and environmental impact of the construction programme, and on production. A bespoke set of software tools will be used to ensure OIE meets those goals, said Fred Carruthers, OIE's maintenance engineering manager.
