Ocean Guardian emergency
Non-essential crew on board the Ocean Guardian rig operating off the Falkland Islands were evacuated when the rig suddenly lost power.
Power was lost on board the rig as it was preparing to move plugging and abandoning the 14/10-8 Sea Lion appraisal well, before moving to another well location in the North Falklands basin, last Sunday, 16 October, rig operator Rockhopper Exploration has revealed.
All the non-essential rig personnel were flown by helicopter to the Falklands' capital at Stanley.
“Power has now been re-established and appropriate checks are currently being undertaken prior to the expected re-manning of the rig and resumption of normal operations within approximately one week,” the company said. “Rockhopper remains in close communication with the Falkland Islands Government. The incident has had no environmental impact and resulted in no injuries to personnel onboard.”
