Ocean Guardian ends Falklands campaign
Diamond Drilling has found a new contract for the Ocean Guardian semi-submersible which means the drilling unit will end its current campaign off the Falkland Islands early next year.
Operator Desire Petroleum revealed today that it has now amended its existing contract to use the Ocean Guardian for an unspecified number of wells before the rig leaves the North Falklands Basin by 1 March next year.
Currently the rig is drilling another combined exploration and appraisal well for Rockhopper Exploration on a possible extension of the Sea Lion oil discovery and on the Casper prospect, designated 14/10-9.
Desire's amended deal allows its to drill an undefined number of optional wells which may be drilled up until 1 March 2012, at which time the Ocean Guardian will leave the Falklands on a long-term contract with another operator, the company disclosed today.
“Desire must declare the exercise of such options on or before the spud of the previous well in the campaign,” the exploration company has stated, adding in a stock exchange statement today: “Desire is investigating all the possibilities to utilise the Ocean Guardian until the end of the contract.”
