Sembcorp to build new Middle East jackup

Singapore's Sembcorp Marine has bagged a Us $218.5 million deal to build a new Pacific class jackup rig for a Middle East drilling company.

Sembcorp has been contracted by Gulf Drilling International to build the Pacific Class 400 series jackup for delivery in the first quarter 2013, which will be equipped to drill in water  depths up to 400 feet (122 metres) and drilling depths of up to 35,0000 feet (10,670 m).

The new units is to be built at Semborp's PPL Shipyard and is destined to operate offshore Qatar for Gulf Drilling International, which is majority owned by Qatar Petroleum.
