Operator Fairfield Energy has reported a third  oil leak while performing an ROV survey at the UK Northern North Sea Osprey field.

The new leak has been discovered on one of the small 8-inch flowlines downstream of a subsea production manifold at the Osprey field.

“Although the line is depressurised a small amount of oil bubbles are continuing to float to the sea surface,” the UK's Department of Energy and Climate Change has said.

Fairfield was planning to flush the line with seawater back to the Dunlin platform in order to remove any oil in the line and prevent any more oil bubbles rising to the surface.

So far, Fairfield has notified DECC of three oil leaks: “The P3 well head which is now isolated, the manifold which is now releasing very small amounts of gas, and from one of the 8” flowlines. The maximum volume of oil released to sea is to date 13.8 tonnes,” DECC has stated.

Monitoring of the incident is continuing and Fairfield is keeping in contact with the UK's energy department.
