Cost Engineer

Job description

Manage the cost control reponsibilities for specific projects and contribute to the achievement of business objective and targets. Contribute to delivery of standard, consistent and robust cost management frameworks and procedures to the projects.

Main responsibilities:

• Considerable interaction with staff from all sections within Project Engineering and Contractors related to cost control and budgets, requiring disciplined management of priorities, good communication and accurate and timely information flow.
• Deliver consistent but appropriate cost management structures for medium-size, stand-alone projects.
• Support delivery of cost management solutions for major, complex projects.
• Implementation of project cost breakdown structures (CBS) and their population from the estimate.
• Prepare Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) and documented Cost Time and Resource (CTR) sheets for phased cost estimates in line with the Company guidance notes for agreement and sign-off by the CTR budget holders.
• Generate accurate monthly cost reports, highlighting variances from the plan on commitment, value of work done, management of changes and currency fluctuations against approved Authorities For Expenditure (AFEs).
• Contribute to the change management process for projects. Analyze trends and then highlight potential impacts of changes on cost.
• Assist in peer reviews and other Assurance events.
• Maintain and promote realism in the cost forecasts in the face of commercial pressure and optimism from project teams.
• Maintain consistency in cost bases through rigorous adherence to the controls processes.
• Contribute to a healthy and safe work environment through knowledge and awareness of and adherence to the company's HSE policy.

Competencies

• Relevant University Degree or equivalent and/or certification as a Cost Engineer or equivalent experience.
• Minimum 8 years industry experience in cost engineering positions.
• Excellent analytical, inter-personal, oral and written communication skills.
• Fully versed with cost control principles and techniques and able to apply these to complex projects.
• Well-developed computer literacy and in depth experience with SAP, combined with Project management and project execution knowledge.
