Norway’s Songa Offshore has secured a new contract for the Songa Mercur semi-submersible drilling for Russia’s Gazflot offshore Sakahalin Island.

Songa Mercur has been fixed for a summer 2011 drilling campaign and the rig is due to mobilise from Singapore next month once a rebuild of the rig’s blow out preventer and resting and verification work has been completed.

Gazflot has confirmed the rig for 180 days firm, and the contract is valued at US $46 million.
