Anadarko has tapped Technip for the supply of a new truss spar platform for the US Gulf of Mexico.

Technip has received a letter of intent for the Anadarko-operated Lucius development in the US Gulf which involves engineering, construction and transport of a 23,000 ton truss spar hull for installation in a water depth of 2,165 metres (7,100 feet).

This will be the 15th spar platform to be delivered by Technip out of 18 worldwide: Detailed design and fabrication of the new hull will be carried out by Technip’s Pori yard in Finland , where most of the previous Technip Spar projects have been manufactured. Project management for the build will be carried out by Technip in Houston.

“This Letter of Intent allows Technip to begin preliminary work on the project including purchase of long lead items for the hull in advance of the planned sanction date of December 2011,” Technip stated today.

Topsides equipment on the new spar platform will be provided to process 80,000 b/d of oil and 450 Mmcf/d of gas and first oil from the project is scheduled for 2014.

Anadarko operates the Lucius field with 34%, and its partners are Plains E&P ExxonMobil Apache Petrobras and Eni.
