Powering up for Brazil
Two new deepwater pipelay vessels destined to operate in deepwater offshore Brazil will be powered up by propulsions systems ordered from ABB.
ABB has secured a US $18 million order to deliver propulsion and electric power systems for the two new ships which are being built by Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering in South Korea for a joint venture between Technip and Brazil’s Odebrecht Oil and Gas.
Both new vessels will be based on a Wartsila Ship Design VS 4146 PLV platform, for operations in deepwater up to 2,500 metres (8,200 feet). They will be equipped for solid tension capacity of 550 tons during flexible pipelay operations, but will use less fuel compared with pure diesel system while doing so, by benefiting from the ABB diesel-electric systems which optimises propulsion power consumption.
