Statoil’s deputy chairman Marit Arnstad has quit her post with immediate effect.

Arnstad has told staff she is resigning her position as deputy chairman with the Norwegian oil major and in her role as member of the board of directors, Statoil disclosed today, without any further explanation.

Arnstad is a former Norwegian Minister of Oil and Energy and reports have said she has stepped down after being re-elected to Parliament

A search has already started for a new board member, Statoil has indicated.
